Programs such as ConvertIt are shareware. Let's start off by saying what Shareware is not. Shareware is not Freeware. That is, Shareware is not free.
Once you install it on your computer and evaluate it for a certain period you must pay for the product. A Shareware program is any computer program that can be "shared" among computer users. But there are restrictrictions on how a Shareware may be "shared".
You can obtain a Shareware program from an Internet site, a Shareware collection diskette/CD, or from a friend. Shareware programs are meant to be available to the mass public, and it is meant to be "shared" among friends. Once you obtain a shareware program, you can install it on to your computer. Then, you can evaluate the program. If you do not like the program, you must delete the software from your computer. If you like the software and want to continue using it, you must register the software with the author.
Even though you are required to register a shareware program if you decide to keep it after registration, shareware authors have a few ways to entice you to register. The non-registered/Shareware version of the software sometimes comes up with reminder messages ("nag screens") that remind you that you are using an unregistered copy of the program. For these products, usually, you will get a registration key or a license number when you register the product. After you type in this number, the annoying messages will not appear anymore.
The advantage of Shareware software over normal store-bought software is that you get to try the software before you buy it. You install the software free of charge on your computer and you get to evaluate it. If you like the software and want to continue to use it, you register it. If you don't like it you simply remove it from your computer and lose no money. Most stores that carry software will not let you return a program if the box has been opened. This is mainly because it is so easy to "steal" software. A person who decides to steal software can purchase a program, copy the program, and then return the program and get a refund. Thus, most stores adhere to a strict policy that if you open the box, you cannot return the software. So, if you buy a program, install it on to your computer, and realize that it was not what you were looking for or, you are stuck with it. And what if the program you purchased doesn't work? You are stuck with it and you can't get your money back. This is not true with Shareware programs. The whole idea behind Shareware programs is you try it first, then if you like it, you buy it. If it is not what you want or it doesn't work right, you simply don't buy it.
So feel free to try out our software free of charge. If our program works well for you, please register it. If our program is not what you are looking for, please delete it from your computer. Simple.
Now for our refund policy. Tigsoft cannot give refunds for our software. This is because it would be easy for people to "steal" the registered versions of our software. You get to try our software free of charge before registering. If the software is not what you want, or it doesn't work on your computer, simply don't buy it. Please don't buy it and ask for a refund later, because we will have to decline. Thank you for your support.
